Quotes from the winners and details on the Leagues can be found below:
Oliver Townend; BE Top Rider; “It was fantastic to hear the news, the yard numbers have reduced this year by over a third so it just shows the depth that we have. And it’s thanks to the huge support of my owners and sponsors, and the hard work of the whole team to work out the individual equations to get the best out of every horse that make all these results happen so consistently over the years.”
Caroline Moore, Co-Owner of the BE Top Horse, Allstar B; “I’m thrilled for Ros and Allstar B who have just gone from strength to strength this year, I’m privileged to be part of such a great team.”
Yasmin Ingham, Goldman Cup for the Leading Under 21 Rider; “The Goldman Cup is something every under 21 rider would love to win, and to win it in my last year of Under 21’s is extremely rewarding. I haven’t had a large string of horses, and don’t run them too often, but this year has been all about consistency, focus and working towards goals. I’ve had my best year yet and can’t thank my owners, team, supporters and sponsors enough.
“All four of my horses have played their part in my success this year, and I cannot thank their owners enough for their support of me and their trust in me to ride their horses.”
Emily Philp, winner of the Britannia 3* League with Nigel Philp’s Camembert; “It is fantastic to have won the Britannia 3* League this season; Camembert has been amazingly consistent and it is great that this has been recognised. I want to say a huge thank you to his owners, my sponsors and my whole team at home who make it possible.”
About the Britannia 3* League: Developed by longstanding BE supporter and owner Nigella Hall, the league is open to British riders who have not started for GB at a senior European or World Championships, or an Olympic Games, and uses BE Points won at British CIC and CCI3* classes, plus any FEI Nations Cup appearances.
Yasmin Ingham, winner of the Calver Wealth Management 2* League, on by Miss Janette Chinn and Edwin and Sue Davies’ Rehy DJ; “I am so proud and quite frankly very shocked! Rehy DJ, [is] a lovely eight year old which was bought for me to compete at the age of six by my very supportive and generous owners Eddie and Sue Davies and Janette Chinn.
“My aim with him was to be selected for the Young Rider Team for the European Championships, so we targeted the 2* competitions in our preparation. By winning the under 21 Championship, I became the first rider to win all three National Youth titles, which is something I am immensely proud of.
“To win this League on Rehy DJ is especially poignant, as one of his owners, Eddie Davies, died recently, and I know he would be very proud of this achievement.
“I would also like to thank Calver Wealth Management for their generous sponsorship of the 2* League – for Rehy DJ, who I may have been tempted to do an end of season 3* on, it has given him the time at 2* level to grow in confidence and become really established at this level, so I know next season, as a confident nine year old, he will find the step up to 3* well within his comfort zone.”
About the Calver Wealth Management 2* League: The league is open to British riders on eight or nine year old horses, qualified to compete at 2* level, the horse can never have competed at three or four star level and BE Points are only counted if they are won at a CCI or CIC2* in Great Britain.
Emily Cariad Nicol, winner of the Gatehouse 1* League with her own Annaghmore Boomlander; “I’m over the moon to have won this award – this season my horse has simply been incredible, constantly going from strength to strength and his record reflects this. He is the most consistent horse with an attitude that is second to none and I’m so pleased that this award recognises his results and efforts. Next year we’ll hopefully be aiming for selection onto the Junior European squad.”
About the Gatehouse 1* League: The Gatehouse 1* League is open to riders that have never ridden at three star level and the points are won at British CIC and CCI1* classes.
BE Foundation Points Top Rider, Melissa Joannides; “I am absolutely thrilled to have topped the BE Foundation Points leader board for 2018, all credit to my horses who have put in outstanding performances this year. We started the season with a win at the very first event, and ended it last weekend with a win – it was a sign of a good year!
“My team and I have worked endlessly hard, so it’s great to have that recognised in the form of the results. I have to say a huge thank you to all my owners for the ride on all of their super horses.”
BE Foundation Points are won at BE90, BE100 and BE105 level.
Alison Walton, owner of Midnight Blue, winners of the BE Foundation Points Top Horse; “I am highly delighted that my homebred Midnight Blues has topped the leader board, and must thank JP Sheffield for the patient professional way he produces my young horses, very happy owner and horse.”
Jasmine Wilks, winner of the Mitsubishi Motors Cup Foundation Points Rider League; “I am so excited by this news and extremely proud that the hard work and dedication which has been put into the training and the events this year has paid off. I couldn’t have done this on my own – I have a great network around me; my boyfriend, my family and close friends have all been extremely supportive, and that coupled with the consistent performance of the horses I have been riding throughout the year has all helped towards this fantastic achievement.”
Caroline Bridge, owner of Eldyno, winner of the Mitsubishi Motors Cup Foundation Points Horse League; “It’s been an amazing experience and something to strive for.”
