Many of you will remember the 2009 video that hit our social media screens and went viral – Naughty Ed, and his small but patient jockey Ross.
We tracked Ross down and asked him what happened to the little pony Ed and if the pair ever got it together.
Ross started riding when he was just 2years old. Encouraged by his horse loving mother and grandmother, Ross would go and help take care of his parents horses everyday after school. And it wasn’t long before her started to ride Ed
Ed was just a little pony with his own mind “One day he will be as good as gold and go whichever way I ask, then the next day he would be stubborn and refuse to do as I ask” Recalls Ross, who 9 years on, is now studying to be a pediatric nurse. “You can hear me in the recording saying “oh! look nan he’s dancing” or when he was having a tantrum moment and kept bucking I was heard saying “oh! Look at me, I’m a cowboy!”, and all I did was laugh”. Sadly Ross outgrew Ed, but he is kept nearby where the family live, and is his same cheeky self. “He was going to be trained to pull a little cart but I’m not sure how that would have gone” “I went on to several other ponies and my last one was called Mopsy and I trained her myself, and she is now an international mounted games pony”.
After a 2 year break from riding, Ross started riding Ollie, who is a whopping 17.2, bit of change from little Ed! His patience with Ed has given Ross not only a great deal of resilience but a great seat. So I guess he wasn’t such a naughty pony after all.
