The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) today, 20 December, celebrated four high-performing equestrian coaches on the completion of their BEF Level 4 coaching qualifications endorsed by UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) at Olympia, The London International Horse Show.
The UKCC is an endorsement, provided by UK Coaching, of a sport’s own qualifications used to ensure the levels and standards of coaches across sports conform to common levels. The BEF is endorsed to deliver, in partnership with its Member Bodies, at Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The Level 4 coaching qualification is a bespoke programme that includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice in Sport Coaching delivered by the University of Gloucestershire, in partnership with the BEF and British Rowing.
Joining the cohort of BEF Level 4 coaches are (in alphabetical order):
Mandy Frost – British Showjumping (BS) Coach
Mandy is the lead coach for Devon Academy and organiser for a successful BS Regional Academy Camp with 80 children attending each year.
Having previously produced horses from Novice to International level, she now focuses on coaching both youth and adults. In 2009 she was voted BS Coach of the Year.
Mandy works with the BS Excel Talent Coaching Programme and is part of the BEF Youth Pathway Coaching Programme.
Mandy is currently undertaking a Masters in Professional Practice in Sports Coaching.
Judith Hubbard – British Horse Society Coach
Judith Hubbard is a freelance coach from Devon who has many years’ experience as a rider and coach in dressage, showjumping, eventing and reining. She has a particular interest in the role of the rider’s mind-set.
Studying for the UKCC level 4 has informed and strengthened her belief that ‘how’ coaches pass on information is crucial to achieving success in equestrian sport.
Judith is passionate about helping riders, and coaches, in the South-West to develop positive mind-set skills.
Sarah Tubbs –British Showjumping (BS) Coach
Sarah Tubbs is a BS Coach based at Marwood Arena in County Durham.
She was awarded BS Coach of the Year in 2015 and is Lead Coach for the Durham BS Academies. She also works with para-showjumpers and is on the BS Para-Showjumping Committee and is a coach developer for the BS Coaching Certificate (BSCC). Sarah has previously worked and trained in Germany and at the Yorkshire Riding Centre before setting up her own business training riders at all levels. She is currently working on her Masters with a focus on Positive Psychology in Equestrian Coaching.
Leanne Wall – British Dressage (BD) Coach
Leanne Wall is a selector for British Dressage Pony, Junior and Young Rider teams. She is also a National List 1 dressage judge and a former Chef d’Equipe.
Based in Kent, Leanne is a British Dressage Accredited Coach and works in a freelance capacity working with a multitude of riders across Junior, Young Rider and Senior International level.
The graduates were presented with their certificates by BEF Chief Executive, Nick Fellows. Commenting, he said; “I am delighted to present these certificates to these high performing coaches to recognise their hard work throughout the two-year programme. I am immensely proud of the vital role that Level 4 coaches play in advancing the profession of coaching in our sport through linking academic study and research to practical coaching application.”
The Level 4 qualification recognises high performing coaches working in a focussed environment and specialising at a given level of performance. The BEF recognises that informed and confident coaches are key to inspiring participation at all levels and these coaches will bring expertise in growing areas of participation and talent development.
