Training Tuesday – This exercise is perfect for improving the quality of the canter, balance of the horse and straightness. It’s important you introduce it gradually. This is my exracehorseDigbe who has done this exercise a couple of times now but you can see is still a little green to start with.
Place your poles 3 metres apart (adjust accordingly for ponies or horses with a big stride) and start by walking, trotting and cantering over the poles. Then you can add small jumps; I started the jumping by alternating poles with small jumps then moved towards jumping bounces. We finish by jumping 4 bounces, 1 stride over a pole, 1 stride over a small upright.
This is an exercise that can be done with minimal equipment and space. Let me know how you get on!
