You can start to introduce some changes over fences to make sure you practice landing on the correct leg. This ensures you are ready for both the turn and the next fence.
Make sure you do on both reins. It’s an exercise I really like – horses are required to do a flying change over the fence from left to right or right to left. You have to keep the same canter over the middle upright then have to change again over the last upright.
It’s an exercise that wouldn’t work as well if you were just doing it with poles on the ground, horses don’t respect the poles on the ground as well as raised poles. There isn’t enough power in the jump to do a good change. Horses that are established can do it over poles too, but for young or inexperienced horses, start over small uprights.
Good luck
