The Longines Deauvill Classic came to a close earlier today, 20th August, with the Grand Prix in which Guy Williams (GBR) with the 13 year-old stallion Rouge de Ravel came close 2nd to Mathieu Billot (FRA) who took the win with Shiva d’Amaury.
It was a huge field of almost 60 combinations that came forward to contest the 1.50m course designed by Gregory Bodo. Requiring sixteen jumping efforts across the thirteen obstacles the course took in many twists and turns before finishing with the final two obstacles set over water trays catching many out. With many questions being asked within what proved to be quite a tight time it was only nine combinations that managed to achieve a clear within the time allowed.
Coming forward for the second round, only four of the field posted another clear to return home on zero penalties with Guy Williams being one of them. His time of 41.02 seconds saw him finish just behind Mathieu Billot’s time of 40.18 seconds however it was fast enough to relegate Kevin Staut (FRA) into 3rd with Vendome d’Anchat HDC and Edward Levy (FRA) and Sirius Black into 3rd and 4th place respectively.
