So finally, I’ve managed to get out Eventing at last!

Friday 11th May saw us go to Aston-le-Walls for the BE100 with a new ride of mine.   Olly (Carrabawn Golden View) reacted really well, I thought he’d be a little excited but he was super chilled and took it all in his stride.

He’s been Evented to BE100 with his owner who wanted me to help him progress.   He coped really well, was certainly happy to be out! The flatwork in the Dressage test was good – there were some really lovely moments, but the canter is still a little unbalanced so scored 6’s for a final score of 37 penalties.   He then had just one down in the show jumping – totally my fault – and jumped a super clear cross country.   We’ll do one more BE100 (at Tweseldown) then step up to Novice at West Wilts on 9th June.   In the meantime, we’ll work on lots of transitions so we can help the canter stay balanced.

I’ve also been busy teaching – at the beginning of May I went to the David Broome Event Centre to teach at the RoR Wales & Severn camp which was great fun.   There were many riders there who I taught at the same camp last year so it was wonderful to see how much they’ve progressed over the past 12 months.   Some of them really don’t have easy horses, so I was thrilled to see their progress.

Then I got back from Wales and went to Badminton for cross country day. The weather was perfect! I had a super time catching up with friends and family and seeing sponsors who were there.   It’s always such a great day out.   I walked the course early on – it was also lovely to be there supporting my friends that were riding. I was so so pleased to see Jonelle – I’ve known her and husband Tim for a long time.   They’ve ridden all kinds of horses and always get the best out of them.   Jonelle’s mare is wonderful, she’s hugely talented but does often have a few poles down.   She just pulled it out of the bag on the day when it really counted.   We all need a bit of luck – she really deserved that luck she had on the day.

This weekend, we’re off to lovely Tweseldown and the sun continues to shine! This is what we waited all Winter for!
