Well its been a very long winter and both ponies and I are looking forward to the spring. South Wales has seen a lot of snow over the Winter months with snow drifts stopping us from competing as much as I would of liked. We were snowed in for 4 days but this didn’t stop Rico and Finley having fun in the field.

There has been a few highs and lows throughout this Winter with Rico.

Firstly we won the Newcomers at Pencoed BS show we qualified for Bluechip Championships in April. We competed at The David Broome Event centre and won all 3 of our classes.  I competed Finley unaffiliated at Pencoed having a 1st and a 2nd which means I have qualified for the Bridgend Championships and the Pencoed Winter Championships with both Finley and Rico.

We were so excited for the Welsh Team Training but during the lesson Rico became aggravated. Unfortunately Rico was not quite himself and completely out of character.  I was very disappointed but I had to do what was best for him and hated the thought he may be in pain so we pulled him out. I still enjoyed the team building, questionnaires and learning new things with my team.

We booked the vets straight away to have his teeth checked and found out that he had been having problem with a pre-molar tooth which was interfering with his bit and causing him pain and a lot of discomfort to think he had won the Newcomers with me the previous week with all that pain amazes me and shows what a pretty amazing pony I have.  Since having Rico’s teeth done we have had lots of snow so only managed to get to our first show back this weekend. Its safe to say he is now back to himself and he is very keen to say the least.  We only entered one class as it was very busy at Sunnybank Equestrian Centre. Rico and I had a 2nd with over 30 competitors in the class.

Now Rico is back to himself we are preparing our-self for the Bluechip Championship at Hartpury.  The next few weeks Rico will be having a few pamper sessions and a fresh new clip. Wish us luck as this will be our first big BS competition.

Now that we have had our fair share of snow I am looking forward to the spring and the start of the summer shows on grass. Will be hoping to compete Finley more and maybe register him BS. Also really looking forward to the next Welsh Team training session.

Good Luck to any fellow competitors competing at Bluechip and if you see Rico and I please come and say hi!
