Even after weeks of sunshine the rain could to nothing to dampen the brilliant atmosphere at Frickley Park’s third running of the British Eventing Under 18 Regional Team Championships, where the South East team reigned supreme in both the National Saddle Centre BE100u18 and HECK! Foods CCIJ1* Championships.

In the team competition, each of the eight regions have up to ten combinations competing with the top four scores from each region making up the team score, and in the National Saddle Centre BE100u18 Championships a score of 124.8 put the South East at the top of the podium. Fourth placed Josh Moore (Funny Boy Fortuna) led the way for the team with a score of 30.3 penalties, along with Charlotte Bull (Suzy Bull’s Cheeky Casper) in fifth on 30.9, Harrison Chart (S.H.E Eventing AB’s Direct Cruising) sixth with 31.1 and Lily Good (One Misty Morning) in 13th on 32.5.

Second place went to the South West on a score of 130.4 and third to Scotland with 131.9. All of the teams took home National Saddle Centre rosettes, and the four highest scoring members of the winning team all received a National Saddle Centre rug, prize money, BE training vouchers, and a headcollar each from the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.

Individually Emma Jowett claimed the BE100u18 Championship for the South West on Holly Needham’s Strike A Pose. With nothing to add to their dressage score of 27.4, the pair finished 0.7 penalties ahead of Scotland’s Daisy Job and Player on 28.1 with Ellie Fredericks in third, also for the South West, on a score of 29.4 riding Karen Smith’s Mandorior.

For her fantastic win, Emma Jowett received a National Saddle Centre rosette and winner’s rug, a brand new black snaffle bridle courtesy of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, prize money and BE training vouchers.

The South East ran away with the HECK! Foods CCIJ1* team Championship title on a score of 122.1 thanks to second placed Emily Cariad Nicol (Annaghmore Boomlander) with a score of 28.2, Molly Faulkner (Amanda Faulkner’s Classic Affair) in fifth on 29.7, seventh placed Zoe Embury (Mrs Di Davies, Mrs Irene Graham, Mrs Anita Dalton’s Orlando) on 31.3 and Serena Kullich (In The Darco) with 32.9 in 10th place.

The South West team took the runner up spot again on a total of 134.9 and Wales and West Midlands third on 142.6 penalties. The winning team were presented with the CCIJ* under 18 Team Championship cup, and the top four scoring team members each took home prize money, BE training vouchers, Gatehouse rugs, and a headcollar from the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.

In the individual competition Lucinda Crawford and Cameron Crawford’s Ballintoher Harry, representing the Scottish region, had a fantastic weekend finishing on their dressage score of 25 penalties with 3.2 penalty advantage over closest competitor, the South East’s Emily Cariad Nicol (Annaghmore Boomlander) and third placed Annabel Carthy and Lydia Norton’s Painted Moon II, who finished on the same score of 28.2 as Emily.

The top 18 placed riders in the CCIJ* class took home prize money and BE training vouchers, and Lucinda Crawford also carried home the CCIJ* under 18 Individual Championship trophy, a Gatehouse winner’s rug and a black snaffle bridle from the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.

There has been high praise for organisers William Buck and Vanessa Flemming, and landowners Charlie and Jayne Warde-Aldam, along with their teams and volunteers for providing and supporting a fantastic Championships event. A huge thank you is also extended for the invaluable support of the volunteer BE Under 18 Programme Coordinators and Assistants, and the skilled Under 18 Coaches, all of whom are BE Accredited and provide training and development opportunities for riders ages 12 to 21 throughout the year.
