At the end of the dressage phase of the eventing competition at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA, Great Britain sit in the silver medal position with Rosalind Canter currently holding bronze individually.

The last of the GB combinations to complete their dressage on Friday afternoon, Lincolnshire’s Rosalind Canter, produced an outstanding test on her own and Caroline Moore’s 13 year old gelding Allstar B to score 24.6 penalties. The polished performance from the British team anchor sees her sitting in the bronze medal position individually which also helped to move the team up into silver.

Commenting afterwards, Ros said; “I’m absolutely over the moon with Allstar B. He’s been such a trooper and he’s so consistent in the dressage. I gave him a day off yesterday because he worked so well the day before. Everytime he comes out he just gives me everything – I’m delighted.”

Undertaking their test on Thursday, Piggy French from Northamptonshire, and Jayne McGivern’s striking 11 year old gelding, Quarrycrest Echo, got their test off to slightly wobbly start but settled into some very impressive work and currently sit in 15th place on a score of 27.8. “I am really pleased, he felt fantastic. He had one mistake at the beginning as we cantered out of the first halt and it took a while to warm-up but on the whole I am delighted; he really gave his all,” Piggy said.

Also riding for the team score, Senior Championships debutant Tom McEwen posted a score of 28.4 penalties with a fluent, forward and expressive test on his own, Jane Inns and Alison McEwen’s 11 year old gelding Toledo de Kerser.

Tom, who is based at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, said; “I was delighted with him, it was a great positive test. It could have been more, I just had a mess with a change at the end but he was fantastic. There was a decent atmosphere this morning and he’s given us a strong team score.”

West Sussex based rider, Gemma Tattersall got things underway for GB as pathfinder for the team on her experienced ex-racehorse Arctic Soul, posting a score of 32.4 penalties which puts them in 46th place, with double Olympic bronze medallist, Kristina Cook also from West Sussex, putting in a great performance as the individual rider on Elisabeth Murdoch and Keith Tyson’s Billy The Red to score 29.1 penalties.

At the end of the dressage phase, Great Britain have a total score of 80.8 penalties which is enough for second place with Germany currently in gold on 73.4 and the USA in bronze on 83.0. Individually, Germany hold gold and silver with Julia Krajewski and Chipmunk FRH in first with a score of 19.9 and Ingrid Klimke and SAP Hale Bob OLD second on 23.3 penalties.

Cross country is scheduled to start at 4pm (BST), with Gemma Tattersall and The Soul Syndicate’s Arctic Soul out of the start box first for Great Britain as team pathfinders, followed by team rider Piggy French and Jayne McGivern’s Quarrycrest Echo, Kristina Cook and Elisabeth Murdoch and Keith Tyson’s Billy The Red as individuals, before the final two team combinations, Tom McEwen and Toledo de Kerser and Rosalind Canter with Allstar B. The final show jumping phase will take place on Sunday afternoon.
