A Welsh pony, Hope had been used for breeding and was in foal and emaciated when she was rescued. Every bone was visible, and she was on the verge of collapse. She was bought from a horse dealer when one of our supporters went to view another horse: instead, they took Hope home. A week later Hope gave birth to a foal, named Cherish.

Unable to keep them, the rescuers asked us to take Hope and her foal. They were still in a very poor condition and needed a lot of care and rehabilitation and we were able to give both the special treatment needed to reach full health.

Hope and Cherish made a good recovery. After Cherish was weaned, we found her a good family home and Hope was also re-homed. Hope returned to Hope Pastures when she developed laminitis and hoof abscesses. She had to spend quite a lot of time on stable rest but, thankfully, she is a lot better now. She enjoys being in the pony and donkey herd and is currently relishing being groomed and loved by visitors to the sanctuary and she is an essential friend on our Pony Days.
