My name is Diavion Evans and I am 15 years old. I have been riding since the age of two and started to compete at the age 5. I live on a farm with my parents and three younger sisters.  I love helping my dad gather the sheep and cattle on the mountain with my ponies, although it can prove to be challenging it helps them wih their balance and turns.   I help bring on young ponies for my younger sisters to ride and compete.  I have two main 148 ponies called Rico and Finley.

I have always had young ponies which I have backed and produced. Prince was my first proper competition pony, I was 9 and he was 3 when my father bought him at Fayre Oaks Pony sale. We had lots of ups and downs as he was very stubborn to back, but I was determined to make him into a showjumping pony.  As time went on he become better and better and soon we were winning. My father then decided to get a second pony to jump bigger. We then bought Monty who was a pony with more experience.  He was a 13hh Bay Section B. We bought him and went to a show the next day and we won two firsts.   From that moment on I knew we had an exciting future together and we did! We had many firsts at local shows ranging from 2ft3 to 2ft9. My highlight with Monty was when we had two firsts in the 2ft3 11 and unders and also a first and a third in the 2’6ft 12 and under at the championships of Great Britian. There were over 60 competiters in these classes.  Monty and I also won  the Modplan Cup at Bedwelty show. We had many winnings at Smugglers Run show aswell.   We won the 2ft6 final, 2ft9 Challenge Cup, the Derby, Pony Rider of the Year and the Overall Points of the Year, we had lots of success together.   Monty and I had so much success we were  in the Argus newspaper, Welsh Rider and in the Merthyr Express Newspaper.  We then registered him BS with many winnings  I had then outgrown Monty and couldn’t find a full up 138.  We already had Rico and he hadn’t long been backed so we decided to concentrate on him although he was 148.

Rico is a 7 year old grey gelding.  My parents and I backed him as a 4 year old. We soon found out that Rico was a quick learner and loves to jump. We started to jump him at a small heights but he proved that he wanted to go bigger. We started jumping unaffiliated and had lots of wins.   We are now competing affiliated BS and are jumping from the British Novice(80cm)up to the Newcomers(1m.) We have won British Novice, Discovery and the Newcomers at Wales and West.  I am hoping to compete him in the Foxhunter classes(1.10m) this year which he is very capable to do.  We are also hoping to jump the Welsh Debut Team at the Welsh home Pony at the David Broome Event Centre. We have already booked in for Welsh Team training.  Rico and I have also qualified for Bluechip.  Which we hope to attend in Hartpury in April.  Last year we won the 80cm Bridgend College Championships and this year we have qualified for 90cm and 1m.  We have also won the 2ft6 final and Pony Rider of the Year at Smugglers Run. We have had winnings at Broomes, Bedwelty, Smugglers Run, Talygarn, Pencoed, Sunnybank and Islwyn Riding Club. We try to compete every weekend and occasionally through the week.

My other pony Finley is a 9 year bay gelding which I compete unaffiliated. We bought Finley as a 6 year old. He was very challenging for a long time and we couldn’t seem to work together but after a few changes with tack and I had to ride him different to Rico, we seemed to click. From then on he has been jumping brilliantly at shows. Finley is verst fast and turns on a six-pence. My hopes with Finley is to compete at the April Winter Leagues at the David Broome Event Centre and jump a few bigger classes.

I am really looking forward to the 2018 Season with Rico and Finley and we have lots planned.  We would be so proud to represent Genius Equestrain. I have over 1000 followers on Instagram and over 2000 likes on my Facebook Page (Diavion Evans Showjumping)
