Animal rescue charity, HorseWorld held a special day where supporters could see behind the scenes of a busy working rescue centre on Saturday 11th August. Over 1,000 people came to look around the charity’s welfare department in Bristol and take tours around the 180 acre estate.

HorseWorld is home to over 100 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys all in various stages of rehabilitation. Supporters were able to meet many of the animals that are now nursed back to health and those that adopt a HorseWorld horse, were able to come and visit them. The farm is not normally open to the public so the 4 Open Days a year are an excellent opportunity for people to see the core rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work done by the charity.

Tractor Safari’s took people out around the fields to see herds of rescued horses living peacefully in a natural environment. There were also walking tours to the hospital facilities where horses are quarantined on arrival. Many visitors were fascinated to see the special equipment required to nurse a sick horse back to health.

“Over £4,300 was raised on the day” said HorseWorld’s Event Co-ordinator, Sofia Carosi “The Open Days are free entry and free parking so the money raised was from donations and fundraising stalls and activities. We would like to thank everyone who came and visited us and donated towards the care and rehabilitation of the horses. The atmosphere was great and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The cake stall was full of delicious home-baked goodies and people crowded round to watch the demonstrations with great interest. Quite a few people showed interest in rehoming a rescued horse and lots of people made a new friend by sponsoring a horse on our adoption scheme.

“Our next Open Day is on Saturday 20th October, 10.30am until 4.00pm. We are looking for volunteers, raffle and tombola prizes and freshly baked cakes for the event. If anyone is able to help, please email sofia.carosi@horseworld.org.uk or call 01275 893030. More details can be found at www.horseworld.org.uk/events.”
